Dada Rest In Peace

With a heavy heart we bade Farewell to Dr Bhudhar Chandra Roy on the 17th of Nov. He was everybody's Dada, always smiling. Dada was born in Goalpara , Assam from where he completed his matriculation before going on to do his BSc from Calcutta. He gained his MBBS from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh and then his DGO from Calcutta. He then came over to the UK where he passed his DRCOG before going into General Practice. He worked as a single handed GP in Nottingham before his retirement in August 1991.

We used to meet Dada regularly whenever we attended the annual Durga Puja Celebrations in Barnsley and Elsecar Village. He never failed to ask after our family and would also inform us about his brilliant son Amit of whom he was extemely proud.

Dada is survived by Pushpa, a very devoted and charming wife and Amit, his only tall, handsome and extremely successful son. He will be sadly missed.

GOODBYE MANJULA

It was at a Christmas lunch arranged by Dr Rama Bhartia in The Brooklands Hotel, Barnsley when I first set eyes on a lovely, slim and smiling face sitting across the dining table. I was introduced to her as Manjula, a friend from Assam, by Dr Badal Bhuyan. We hit it off straight away as she was so easy and friendly to get on. Since then I have met her at a few social events and was impressed by her vivacious personality and abundant energy on the dance floor. Sadly all this has come to a premature end.

Manjula was born in Shillong where she completed her schooling before joining Assam Medical College in 1960 as an aspiring medical student. Two years later she decided that the course was not meant for her and she was swept off her feet by Mr Dulal Baruah whom she married and went on to have 2 beautiful and talented daughters, Dina and Seema.

Manjula continued to thrive in everything she did be it dancing, singing, cooking, gardening, knitting, sewing not to mention playing tennis. No wonder she always looked so fit and well! To crown it all she was a Managing Director of a very successful travel company where she was held in high esteem by all the staff working with her.

Unfortunately Mr Dulal Barua passed away in 1997. Although prematurely widowed she continued to make the most of her life as she knew best, enjoying it fully.

Just over two years ago Dr Badal Bhuyan, a classmate of hers from Medical College came into her life . She was charmed by his gentle and loving personality. After a whirlwind courtship they were married in Oct' 2008 and spent a very happy few months together. Manjula immersed herself fully into the local activities as far as she could making Badal a very happy man indeed. Unfortunately she fell ill in June this year and succumbed to the terminal illness on the 3rd of Nov. I spoke to her before leaving for India in Sept when I found her very optimistic and cheerful. Being the generous person she was, she was full of praise for the National Health Service and the excellent care she had received in and out of hospital.

Although Manjula is no more, she has left a lasting impression on everyone who had the priviledge of knowing her just like myself.

May you rest in peace Manjula. You will be remembered.always.
